Any musicans on the forum?

One thing I have always fancied, but never got round to, was having some music playing when I sailed. Easier these days with waterproof cases for MP3 players (Aquapac and others do them).

Athletes in other disciplines use music to relax (or distract) their conscious mind, so the subconscious can control their body (it does a better job). Might help in racing...perhaps when coming up to a hairy gybe mark?!

However, I'd rather have some heavy rock blasting out loud, than earphones. Great fun....except for those around me!

I play Trumpet in Orchestra(s) and am grade 8, but prefer to play Jazz,
also play piano grade 5, I can also play percussion a bit, but don't fit in with the other percussionists(?) as I seem to be able to play at the same tempo for more than 4 bars

MIDI has caused several hundred hours of my life to disappear into a black hole....but I think I enjoyed it.

But more than anything else, I wish I could sing. That would make any instrument or band more pleasurable for me. Perhaps add a touch of confidence too, so I wouldnt feel abashed doing it.

Urm, no. Blues and Rock n Roll for me.

Just had bad experiences with it. Like writing out 54 bars of Beethoven score for a string quartet. The worlds most pointless exercise and I gave me 'teacher' some real grief over it. It would have made a lot more sense to get the musicians in the studio and just mic that shizzle up!

MIDI is perfect for some uses (tight budget etc). I have used it extensively in the past but personally I just love the analogue sounds. You can't beat it. My amp is all valve because it just has so much more life in it compared to its solid sate cousins. Put a Hammond B3 through a real Leslie and it's an experience I think everyone should get to whitness! Get that miced up with a couple of ribbons and you got yourself a real sound. The MIDI alternative just sucks arse.

Drums are similar though there are programs and pieces of software that get you really close, almost undistinguishable even to the most trained ear. But you can't beat a live performance. All the little nuances that machine cannot replicate is what makes it unbeatable. This is just what I think anyway.

Even the old school breakbeat turntableists have cirtain magic about their sound, rather than programmed beats.
