Hi all,
My crew goes off to university next month and as I'm struggling for another, I shall probably return to singlehanded sailing. I'm 57kg (so ok - not a lightweight but lightish!) and am looking to sail a singlehander with some go, without being constantly overpowered. I'd love an rs300 but those with the smaller rig appear to be something of a rarity - also I understand that the A rig isn't actually that much smaller than the other anyway so I don't know how great an option that would actually be! What are my options?? Holly ALSO - RS200 240 FOR SALE, if interested email hollyhewat@hotmail.co.uk for more details. |

ur kinda in the black hole of the dinghy market
![]() a laser radail is a good boat with a good circuit and is easy to sail. an rs 300 at 57 kg could be possible but in a breeze you need to work very hard upwind and it would test ur muscles ![]() |

On the other hand the 300 rig is easily depowered.

The usual suspects would include: Laser Radial; some poeple love 'em, some hate 'em. Underpowered in light winds, but it doesn't matter if you are class racing. Streaker; Resurgent class, with new Rooster boat and plenty of 2nd hand boats at a range of prices. More popular in the north for some reason. Byte; Possibly declining, but now with a sexy new rig. Look very good, but not sure of the future. Lightning, Comet. Don't know anything about them, but that is not a criticism. They just aren't sailed at my clubs! RS300 A rig, and Moth. If you are good enough..... The 300 is very nice, and the A rig is pretty manageable, but you need to practice, take advice and go to a few opens. The Moth the same only more so! PM me if you want to talk about the 300, I had both rigs.

I knew the laser radial would come up but to be competitive on the circuit I need to put on about 8kgs which I don't much fancy!
Neither streaker, byte or lightning have any appeal as I don't know anyone with one and I'm not feeling that they're too interesting! I've already had the moth suggested and it does appeal though another friend did struggle with his for a while and I sail on a busy river a fair amount of the time - it's not really suited to moth sailing but I've definitely considered it! It would seem that a 300 at my weight (bearing in mind I'd like to loose a bit more ideally!) may be somewhat challenging, that's if I could even find one for sale with an A-rig!! Thankyou though and please keep your comments/suggestions coming guys!! RS200 240 FOR SALE, if interested email hollyhewat@hotmail.co.uk for more details. Edited by Holly |
