Maybe we should stick with our Fireball & Topper mini-scows, then.

Did anyone ever sail a Tempo (from South Africa) or Flipper (Scandinavia). The latter really was a big 2-man Topper , but g.r.p. and more sophisticated rig; probably slow in light airs but otherwise fun.

Sailed in the Inland Lakes Regatta a good few years ago, up in Milwaukee on the great lakes - I think there were about 3 classes of scows (but maybe more) - loads of sailing talent involved - including the Melges clan.  They are great fun in a pile of breeze but awful in the light stuff, despite the huge amount of canvas up top. they work well on the lakes due to the lack of chop/waves, wouldn't like to sail one off the coast of GB or in a tidal estuary - slow tacking, wallowing in waves but mega quick once you're powered up
Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one

That's a phantom sail for a jib.

I want a go in one now!

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer.

Don't worry, most of the energy is being wasted in the name of creating spray

Great video!

Here's the E-Scow spec.

Length............28 feet
Beam............6.9 feet
Hull...........Fiberglass
Hull Wgt.........965lbs. (maybe not so much to lose here as I thought!)
Crew...................3-5
Main...........228 sq.ft.
Jib................95 sq.ft.
Spinnaker....550 sq.ft. (photos show both symm+pole & asymm on bowsprit)
Spar..........Aluminum

Sounds like a lot more fun to me than any sportboat you care to mention...

But spray is also good, watery fun. Not keen on boats that leave me too high or remote from the element I enjoy playing in; just a matter of taste.

Probably correct though that the delightful beast could do with a weight cure. Fewer crew members, on trapezes, and most likely a chunk off the hull weight would add to the fun.
