I'd agree with this; get a maintenance contract sorted out and add it into the budget sop people will not argue about repairs and costs etc. If you do this, everyone will need to agree that everything is spit up 10 ways. Problem is that it might encourage people to sail Irresponsibly "as I only have to pay 10%"..... |

I think that's right. Even when I've owned a boat with my Brother you can have those kind of disputes! My plan was to have all maintenance etc. paid for rather than doing DIY (that's part of the attraction for me!). Thanks for your interest/advice.

no commitments going to uni but also no money. Ive seen it happen so many time 5 or 6 people pitch in to buy a yacht but then when it comes people bailing out and repairs to be done and maintanance it will come down to well i wsnt there and he had all his friends on. As long as its controlled it should work. Good luck |

I appreciate the comment, but with 3 small children and a full-time job I'm lucky if I go sailing (on the sea) twice a year! I've got some gravel pits near me where I can go dinghy sailing more often. I think you're correct in saying that a 10th is about the minimum size that is really practical - below that is just for occasional interest. I suspect I must be conversing with someone who either has a very understanding spouse or no commitments |

I am trying to set up a syndicate to purchase a brand new Delphia 37 (total cost approx. 80,000). 10th shares available or would even consider 50ths (if you're really short of time/money and don't mind possibly having to sail in the Winter!) Cost for a 10th (obviously) would be 8,000. To be based South Coast marina, e.g. Gosport/Portsmouth. Link to full article: http://www.reachtogether.co.uk/modules/AMS/article.php?story id=30 The Delphia 37 is on show at this year's Southampton show. Any interest in this/comment on the boat chosen? |
