Just seen the Blody Mary results - it seemed to me that there was a distinct absence of assymetric boats there...were they all busy doing something else or what??

There seems to have been an absence of boats of all descriptions, probably for good reasons. Anyone who was there - how windy was it? I find it hard to get an idea from the photos.

When I left to go there at 11 the QM website weather report said Force7. When I got there I'd say it was that and gusty with it. I believe it dropped some as the race progressed.

I've only been out once in a dinghy in F7 and I don't plan to repeat the experience if I can help it. I don't blame those who retired or thought better of it to begin with.

Have to say that Sunday was not so bad at my local club, but on Saturday I would definitely have dropped down to a Radial rig....

There was quite a few assymetric boats there but alot of them broke things, for instance Simon Hiscocks got hit by a gust in his 49er the gust almost lifted the boat out of the water and the mast broke even before it hit the water! I think ever boat which finshed the race capsized at least once.

We went out in our 29er but were stupid enough to rig the kite wrong, came back in then went back out again and it was very windy, but what made it really hard was the gusts and lulls, we didn't have a wind thing but we would say it was averaging 28knots but definatly gusting well over 32. Just look at the photos on fotoboat!

Watching the wind guage it was hitting 36 knots at times. Congratulations to the sailors that completed the Bloody Mary and also congratulations to those who decided it was too windy for them to sail.

Note the top thre boats were all what you would call traditional and well tested classes.
