He wants an ISO - a tad ambitious at 9yrs, an L3K seems an acceptable compromise |

I bought the Vago because it offered the option of sailing single handed and at the time, last summer, it offered a good route for improving my sailing having come to sailing late in my life. The Vago is heavier than a GRP boat, but not by a huge margin, yes it has low rig tension, but the rig is designed with that in mind, also like the 3000 it sticks in light winds, but when the wind is up and it gets on the plane it is just plain fun and that is why I like it. I have a new novice crew for which the Vago is an ideal training boat.I wouldn't suggest Grame buys a Vago as it would stick in the light stuff just like the 3000. If I was buying a boat today I wouldn't buy the Vago or the RS500 indeed I have put my money where my mouth is and bought a 59er. (I've still got the Vago and intend to keep it for now). |

If your son is determined to sail an ISO, get a buzz to start with as it is like a mini iso. But look at the vago and 500 too. |

Graeme - I'd just like to thank you for one of the most entertaining threads for ages. Your acerbic wit might not be to everyones tastes (at least those on the receiving end) but a lot of it reflects what some of us dare not say! I do know you 'of old' but had forgotten just how entertaining you could be.I haven't contributed up to now as it seemed to me that the longer the thread went the better it got so I'm sort of dissapointed you've made a decision although I think it's probably the only one that fit your criteria. So who is your 85kg crew - please tell me it's Mark Carney - I'd love it if the beanpole had put on that much weight! In one of your earlier posts you said
I'll take you on for that challenge - if you dare. Actually, an event like that could be a good idea - have several sailors from each discipline - say a couple of dozen? A weekend of races - swapping from boards to boats and back.all with big sponsorship from DaKine! |

Hector hmm I wonder...
Elliot is Marks son, that's the 2nd generation Carney I've had come through me, Mark was 16 when he first started windsurfing and Elliot is now 17 and just got his first big pot and very proud we all are. The Crew, worse than Carney, its Steve Avery, we were out again tonight and beginning to get that lsr3000 humming, held on to 2nd tonight until the bloody wind dropped and an RS200 got by us as the wind dropped to bugger all. As to that event, a while back we nearly staged a cross bay downwind classic, see who'd get from the Varne out deep and then back to Hythe, Kite v Board v Boat, with a lift back booked courtesy of the Hythe Light Railway, could be a blast. I have some influence with Dakine as you probably well know. C'mon who is it? Only bloke who might stand a cats chance in hell, well he would have done before he turned soft and lost all his definition, sitting on his chuff in a Musto, Si Reynolds, but everyone knows he's just a big girl now. |

What's this Graemef - you giving one of the two headed inbreds from Whitstable some respect - you're slipping pal! Yes Si would stand a good chance - if it was in Mustos he'd kick ass - dunno how good he is in 'sit on' dinghies and I'm sadly hazy about his Board talents (age thing). I guess the Dakine Sailsport Challenge event would be hard to sort - for instance what Raceboard and what dinghy could be used? what format of racing? Would there be handicaps for each class / board or just a first home race? As for me, you'd have to look a lot further North than Kent to find me. Edited by Hector |

6 races 5 to count . 6 different classes 10 of each, to level any differences in a class the competitors from the other dicipline choose there boat/board first. Race format to suit class. for dinghys Finn as most boardys couldnt pull the sail in, A cat to keep Hector happy but I guess no one will lend one, MPS cos I want to play. formula boards look cool for doors I guess all boards will be sinkers for me. To make getting the boats/boards easier the races could be at different venues / days where they already have the equipment. |

Sounds like our internal Surf Sales inter rep chllenge this. We have yet to
all turn up on the day, but we had planned a multi sport event kite, wake, bike, sail (toppers probably cos its the only thing the wakedorks could contemplate, boards, then just to make sure I win, a ski race. So, what we'd need I guess is invitees/volunteers from each class with their kit, knowing they are going to swap it around. (I can imagine the settings going up the pictures as each crew leaves the relevant bit of kit). It would probably have to be a rolling swap, otherwise there might not be any good competition in the various classes. Or the whole party travels from event to event using whatever local kit is to hand, and applying handicaps to get a result. That falls down because boards don't have a rating. Where we'd get cats from I've no idea, I suppose we could contact our local special needs facility, be no good anyone else, they'd never find the venue. Do cats compete even? I mean how do they get from place to place, can cat sailors even drive? How would they know which way to go when they got there, don't tell me some of them can read now. This idea needs working on it could be a blast, you'll all lose to windsurfers, but its time y'all were set in your place. Here's how you spell it. L O S E R S I'll get the T shirts printed ready for y'all. Edited by Graemef |
