An Iso, especially with the new sails. Twenty points slower than a 4000? You're having a laugh...

I don't think the Merlin is a bandit, the standard of sailing in the fleet is very high, and it's not like you get a complete muppet winning a handicap event in one is it?

The Streaker is definately a bandit in a light winds on small lakes, a well sailed one can easily stay with the Lasers.

Definitely the streaker - her indoors has an old one, and even it can perform. Also the phantom, even mine.

an rs200 won the glynn charles this year i think I think most boats have their "special" wind strength where they outperform their handicap. Get a carbon merlin, then take the lead out of it and that would probs be unbeatable in light winds |

The thought of that makes me smile!! Merlins without lead in them are chaffing quick! |

suprised no one has said it... Moth! It has to be in good conditions and in the write hands.
29er in most conditions apart from drifting always does well 49ers always seem to do reasonably when at the tiger when we only had the kite up for 2mins each lap. Can not wait next year when we have our big rigs and the same handicap.... |

Later spec Phantoms (ie epoxy hull/carbon rig) have grandfathered the rest of the fleet, effectively a new class but with the same PY. Think its this sort of design/construction change that causes banditry!
Phantom is the biggest culprit I've seen, but newer Streakers seem to sail above yardstick too. But hey it's handicap racing so its pointless getting too worked up about it. |
