I'd check some of the names  that compete in it (ex world champ etc)before posting comments like this.

bit harsh strawb. SSR is just one of many organisations that use the word skiff in what seems to be an incorrect manner. The musto skiff is an example that has been mentioned already, along with many other examples in the dinghy world.

yup the vortex's can and do take part in the SSR grand prix circuit, so it is eligable for Scottish Skiff Racing events, however this is just the Scottish Skiff Racing definition. It just depends on what 'skiff-like boat' open you are going to do and what they will allow.

Cat amongst pigeons time, no swearing boys and girls as I know some of you will disagree.....

Monohull (as defined by RYA), PY 930, asymmetric spinnaker = VORTEX.

So is the Vortex eligable for "skiff" events? Not on the list for the Scottish Skiff event I notice.

Ive not found a decent word yet, when i do im just hoping it will catch on.
Im thinking Real Skiff sailors wont mind taking on my word, as then it takes the marketing theft away from their boats, and the high/low performance dinghy sailors of the world wont mind taking it on as not to insult Real Skiffs.  So no marketing budget needed......plus ive got no money (all being saved up for a musto at the end of the year) so word of mouth will have to do.
now just to make the word............

Anyone got any suggestions??

P.S Aussie skiff sailors must really hate the "musto skiff" then??

So what the word and are you going to have the marketing budject to promote it?

No we don't hate Musto skiffs just we don't get them(they all might get burnt)

There are other boats that are traditionally called skiffs, St Laurence(sp?) and these are acceptable due to TRADITION something that any SMOD designer would love to have.

To summarize Skiffs have Tradition

SMOD SKIFFS are a marketing term.

I totally agree, skiff is a very old term for a small boat, so the term skiff should really apply to boats which have some heritage, eg 18's
