Cracking footage Sten. I think the camera is lashed on the end of a Laser top mast which in turn has been lashed to the wing. Rick |

I'm just messing really, as I don't really think it's a Tri. But to answer your point Bov, the difference would be when a wing becomes a 'float'. After all many Trimarans have what are really simple wings but with 'designed' flotation on the ends (unlike a 49er where the end of the wing is meant to 'never' hit the water). IE - if a 'definitions' puritan comes along and notices that when heeled a craft gets flotation/lift from the outer part of the Hull or Wing, that the part in the water appears to have been designed to be hydrodynamically efficient in that position, and to top it all, there's an air gap (as there appears to be in the photo), then why isn't it a Trimaran? But before you take my 'argument' too seriously, realise two things. One, I'm just back from the club/pub, Edited by Hector |

not sure what you mean hector. it only has one hull!!! and wings does that mean a 49er is a trimaran? I am hoping to sail her again on sunday cant wait as it should be windy. |

I believe the devide is that trimarans are designed to be sailed with at least one outrigger in the water at all times
Someone (freddie dovosian??) built a moth with enlarged outer wing bars shapped like extra hulls a while back... it was outlawed due to being too trimarany but it is interesting where the line lays... What about the M4? (the moth rip off) It has outriggers not designed to be in the water all the time, but as it is designed as a 'peoples foiler' id immagine in inexperianced hands they would spend most of the time dragging anyway... |

Hmm .. By that same thinking Hector, Wouldn't a Moth be considered a trimaran? (or the older ones with wings that float)

I love it. But playing devil's advocate, isn't it a trimaran in all but name?

She is very cool you have to sail her very flat upwind which seems very odd in a yacht But we were doing around 7knots in 8/10 knots of wind. She is not stable when you are doing manuvers as it is only about 900kg half the weight of a mumm30 and wider! Down wind is awesome we hit 15.1knots in 12knots of wind and were doing steady 11/12 in 8 knots of wind. We went past a J105 doing about 5 knots more than them and only a few degrees higher downwind Very cool boat can’t what to sail her in some more wind |

ah nice. How was it Ian? There was much speculation on the forum about the boat when it was first released but no one had any first hand experience to comment either way! What was she like? Was she fast? Was she stable? so many questions!
