Yeah... ME! When I saw the state of that rope, I didn't want to get the spinnaker up at first. Then I was tempted and hoped for the best. It held OK thanks for that... Well, it's not the reason why we capsized, eh Carshalton!!?

LASER 2! What a boat! Remarkable fun when it is really blowing... nice and tactical when its not. The incredibly poor fittings and sail controls let it down but otherwise a very cool boat.

Is that a flying 15, gaznjax, or do my eyes deceive me?

Spot on Timnoyce Laser II, goes like stink when its strong enough to use the trapeze, which hasn't happened yet this year during club races. It's very light, my wife and I can lift it onto it's trolley fully rigged, and there lies it's Achilles heel ..it is not a tough boat. We enjoy it though and I'm good at fixing things.

Oh, well with my choice of boats to sail the laser 2 is the heavy and robust alternative! (my other boat is a cherub!) If they've been looked after then i find there isn't much to go wrong with them. In the 3 years that I've sailed them I've lost 2 kite poles but thats only because they stow really poorly and seem to come undone in the worst possible time, and also lost a whole rudder with stock, tiller and extension.... that fell off in a capsize!

In nuclear conditions (eg at the BUSA nationals this year at weymouth, averaging 35knots) they are insane. I was flat wiring on all points of sail, even a 2 sail very broad reach! Upwind was incredible, with 14 stone on the wire we were pointing a good 5 degrees higher than the other 2's and going considerably faster. Think it may have been terminal velocity in a 2! Brilliant!

Tim, I think i may have a different oppinon about the '2' than you.  It was a horrible boat to sail, when i was at Uni. The laser 3000 isn't much better (or different).  i suppose its an ok boat for getting people sailing, although its still quite awkward at times.

All in all an old boat that was ok in its time but has deffinitely been outdated since.
