Avoid coloured varnishes at all costs - I would suggest removing the top surface of the existing white patch and relacing with something like an SP microballoons filler but one which is coloured (after mixing with epoxy) to match the surrounding deck.  Alternatively (and dependent on the porosity of the white filler) you could try to stain the filler

My local chandlery has a box full of dyes and colours for such purposes........

I really can't imagine stained varnish helping much - pale brown varnish as againt ddark brown varnish isn't much of a gain... Also many coloured varnisghes look nasty to me. Replacing the white filler with an appropriate coloured filler might be best, failing that try wood dye on the filler before varnishing.

I have in the past very lightly redrilled the holed only a couple of mm then sanded inside the tank to get some saw dust of the same wood, mixed that with epoxy and filled the whole. ta da a not white circular hole that has been filled.

Hi there.
I have recently re-decked firefly 1993 who is wooden and (now) beautifully sanded down. There is some fairly large patches of white where holes have been filled and, although as smooth as the rest of the boat, don't look nice compared to the wooden rest of her!

I had intended to varnish her as i thought that it would look nice before i noticed the big filled patches. I was wondering whether if i bought a dark varnish with colour in, would it cover these patches and make her look lovely?

It seems a shame to paint her!

A reply would be greatly appreciated!
