We have to drag our boats up a shingle beech at the end of a days sailing and it can be a bit of a struggle.

Any one know where we can get some larger, baloon type, trolley wheels/tyres and would they fit on a standard launching trolly arrangement.

Just been talked into getting another Buzz and we will need all the help we can get dragging it back to the dinghy park

hi ian, i would also recommend some sort of wheelbarrow tyre, or try wet and windy see if they can help.

p.s are you off to the nationals this year?

Bob D. (Kestrel) uses road trailer tyres (& tubes) on his launcher. The tread is flatter so the contact patch is greater, and he claims there's less rolling resistance on the shingle.

Brian R. (Phant) used to have what he called Carlos Fandangos under one of his boats. Think they're the ones shown as 'D' on p.43 of the LDC catalogue - nearly £30 a wheel - ouch! Also, the tread is pretty knobbly, which must increase the drag again.

But as you say, Ian, you'll need all the help you can get with a Buzztub

Ian, is this at wilsonian or another club?? At downs sailing club they all have sledges which glide brilliantly along shingle....although if your asking for wilsonian, the sledge idea wouldn't work so well once in the dinghy park
Another idea is to try and find out where you can get the wheels that are used for catameran trolleys as they are usualy of a substantially larger size (at least they were on the hobie i used to race).

Where do those huge baloon type tyres that the cats use come from, any one know?

The Huge balloon wheels used on Cat trolleys are called EuroTrax balloon wheels, and if you think 30quid for a wheel is a lot, just wait until you find out the cost of ONE of these puppies….. £126.90.

If after you pick yourselves off the floor and still want some, try http://www.cat-bitz.co.uk/acatalog/bitz.html

this idea probably wont work but it just came to me out of the blue: cut the sides off old bike tyres then glue them to the trolley wheel and thus increase the diametre. might need alot of bike tyres and alot of glue though.
