Unfortunately the best place to go look is on the Cherub website... In the Tech support section there's this article - http://www.sailingsource.com/cherub/descherub.htm on designing boats, links to the freely downloadable hullform software and even a couple of starter designs to play with... Its all applicable wider than just Cherubs, but its a lot easier working within a framework and with some starting points than it is to start with a completely clean sheet of paper.

How are they made.... pen and paper, general cad software, specific hull design sorfware
Are they easy.... Very easy to make a boat shape, very hard to make a succsesfull design What software do I use.... Hullform would be the best to get started on, and free versions are available but theres literaly hundreds of options out there Id definantly agree with Jim; If your looking at seriously having a go id look at trying to design something that fits within the ruleset of an existing development class so you can compare to existing designs rather than the point, click, hope aproach. |

at the moment i'm playing with ShipShape which is quite a nice thing to play with once you get used to everything. The tutorial is a good place to start, but its basically entering and linking coordinates. |

freeship is great, just started trying things with it and got a hull shape semi sorted in an evening availible from www.freeship.org
It is open source and keeps on getting improved and updated. There are also loads of examples you can download to give you an idea of what can be done. |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right
