I wasnt blaming this forum as such only that the ability for everyone to have their say in such a quick way, sometimes without much reflection, can work to the detriment of these changes. The class now has to wait for the long slow process of committee meeting then feedback then more meetings before anything can be resolved. The relevant questions were put and as I understand it the class association were waiting for a committee meeting and also to see how the boats fared on the water before making any replies. There are some who are, like myself, not Osprey sailors who possibly should have left the shouting to the class association members. Personally I hope this all settles down and possibly a seasons reflection may put a different perspective on the whole thing.

I saw the Mk4 at the boat show and was impressed with the finish, attention to detail and above all the enthusiam for the project from the builder. It is not my cup of tea, but I value the diversity of classes that allow us all to find a suitable boat to sail. It is a shame when people can't deal with issues in a positive manner, such is life! |

I hope they get this sorted but I don't think you can blame forums ... they are just a way for people to communicate; we live in a different world now and new media make news travel very fast ... but it's the same news. Rick |

I think this demonstrates how harmful these forums can be. In the past this would have been discussed at membership level in relative privacy and then discussed at committee, now any one (who may or may not have any vested interest) can have their say without thinking or caring what the consequences might be. The Ospreys made a brave move forward which has happened in many of the older classes and worked. I hope the Ospreys can move on with this and get Hartleys back on board. Yes there may be differences in the boats and yes it may give a minor advantage for a while BUT this bickering will just drive people away from a great and spectacular boat. Eighteen new boats ordered in what many would consider an old and outdated class that is a great move forward in anyones book. After all a rising tide etc. If you guys continue to tear your class apart you will end up as one of those interesting lost classes that have faded into memory. There are plenty of examples of classes that have made changes within the spirit of the class rules.( wide bow Fireballs, Revolution Hornets ) and the classes have survived these changes. I hope the class can pull together on this and get over this. After all it is a great boat with a great history. Good luck to you all.

There are a few people in the Solo class who seem intent on destroying it too, it's unbelievable the way a few bods can stuff things up for everyone. I hope the Ospreys can get it sorted, there was a real buzz about the class since the MkIV appeared.

Having met one of the Hartleys at Alton water at the recent Osprey Mk IV test day , I was very impressed by their products and the people involved with them. I'm fairly new to this sailing lark, and thus an Osprey is not the sort of thing appropriate to my current level of ability but it seems a great shame if the class does implode. I've watched Ken Carroll's Mk IV whilst it competed in Alton Water's Frostbite series, admittedly it was in expert hands but it did look great on the water. Where does the class go from here ?

Wow, the amazing imploding class...what isn't clear is how anyone could be shortsighted enough not to work out what the end result will be... In the Fireflies, we had to throw the rule book out of the window to be able to build a GRP boat that would be strong and cheap enough to revive the class, as it was impossible to build a decent internal layout to the old rules in GRP. If memory serves me right, the committee lead the membership by the hand through all the detail of what was going on, and now the class is as strong as it has ever been, with old wood and new glass boats both being viable options to race. It seems a great shame if another classic like the Osprey will wither away because of this situation. |

Whats going on ? From what I've read, the builders have resigned, the class secretary has resigned, a MK IV has been sent back to the builders and the talk is that a MKIV does not measure without class rules dispensation. Shame, as the boat looks great. |

I did try suggesting they built a daggerboard on the stand as a demonstration, and even offered my half built foam blank and a boat to put it on when it was finished but they were having none of it |
