   Just about to purchase a dinghy for the first time. Should I look for a trailer board which is designed specially for sailing dinghies, or get a general purpose one :?

	Just about to purchase a dinghy for the first time. Should I look for a trailer board which is designed specially for sailing dinghies, or get a general purpose one :?

	A lot of people I know get general-purpose boards but put a longer electric cable on it. The trailer itself should have some kind of securing points. Alternatively, you could affix your board to a short plank equipped with pins that fit neatly in the rudder pin holes (I still can't remember what they're supposed to be called). It depends on the anatomy of your boat, of course. Whatever you do, don't try this at home:

	I drove back from deepest darkest wales with my board ducktaped on (still havnt figured out how to atatch it properly) so anything will do... If you get a specific sailing one chances are it wont be any different from a normal one but at double the price. Just be a bit inventive on how you attatch it (most people mount it on a board that clips into the rudder pintles on the boat as per BnSs post)

	Caravan centres will often have boards with a 6m cable attached, as do Motorsave. I believe that it should have a fog light to be legal, but I've never found one with one...

	You ought to get one of the wider ones that have reflective triangles on. Neatest trick I did with a light board was to glue foam rubber about 4 inches thick on the back...

	the best one i heard was to aquire one of the road works plastic boards they make great catamaran lighting boards!

	If you buy a normal (wide) board you can buy a fitting from Rooster/LDC etc that fits on the pintles on the boat and has a mast cradle, which just self taps onto the lighting board. NB the trailer boards from motoring shops come in at least 2 widths, and you must get one wide enough! Edited by Rob.e

	or you could do wot im doing and fashoin your own thing to fit the lighting board onto the pintels (GCSE tech project). fitting one onto a 29er is a knitmare!!!!
