Doug index= (PY/(LW)/w/S/a)*P

note PY=PY       L=length in meters       W=width meters     w=weight kg      S=sail area meters square   a=atendance figures      and     P=price new

contender = 14.9

Finn = 28.6

mps = 17.0

fireball = 7.2

49er = 2.9

merlin rocket = 7.1

Looks like a series of random numbers ,,, ??

ive come up with a formula but i havnt worked out how to fairly encorperate price to the equation.  my equation kinda combines performance with how healthy that particular class's racing circuit is.
I got my figures from the Y&Y racing clases guide...here goes
length x width, now divide that by the (weight divided by sail area)
hold that number
now take ur py and divide it by the number from above
now take that number and divide it by the national attendance figure from that class from 2005
and your done
with my workings it comes out with this scale
49er = 2
Rs800 = 2
Moth foiling = 4  (used a 49er handicap because ive seen them go that quick!!)
Musto Skiff = 5
Rs200 = 5
Laser 4000 = 5
Fireball = 6
29er = 8
Topper = 9
Laser = 14
Laser 2000 = 14
Optimist = 18
Rs600 = 20
and the i only used hull weights not all up weights as the classes guide didnt have that.  Plus to all u moth guys, the numbers i used for you are somewhat sketchy mainly because im not letting a foiling month get away with a 986 handicap and i know the widths ive used arnt waterline widths but i didnt have anything else to go from.  Ah well.
I hope ive explained properly whats spread over about 3 sheets of paper infront of me

Doug

P.s let me know what you think

True - but I think I'll do somthing else in stead ... I was wondering if a simple price performance index could be made but as with just about everything else in our sport it's too complex to simplify ...

I think a Cherub is about 1.81. This is based on a guesstimated PY of 920 (about right I think)
