Just a thought, I know Laser like to have a kind of monopoly over equipment used on lasers, but with the new rules allowing a 15:1 purchase on the kicker, could I obtain this purchase using a multiblock and cascade system. Or do I have to buy the Harken / Holt pre packages?

Are these packages worth the money? - The question has been asked before but cant say I have came across it!

I think you have to use one of the two pieces where it joins the kicker tang (someone correct me if I'm wrong but it is how I understood the rules), but then as long as you don't exceed the number of allowed purchases you can use whatever blocks you like, so the ronstan or seasure equivalent if you prefer. However I think by the time I added up all the  bits including the string there wasn't much in it cost wise.

My cunningham is made with my own choice of blocks and the standard plate at the base of the mast. Then I think one of my cleats on the plate is holt & one harken so I can remember which string is which in a hurry!

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

You need to have the standard deck plates for the new cunningham and outhaul (this is in the class rules, you cannot make up something that does the same job).

As for the kicker ther is (was) an article on the Laser international which showed how to modify the original bottom kicker assembly to become 15:1 and using a double block at the top.

What I did before I went over to the new controls was put a decent quality double block at the top and have a floating block in the middle (the drawings are (were) on the Laser international site).

I have had a quick peek on the Laser internation site but I cannot locate the documents.

It does state in the class rule that the only permissable vang bottom fittings are the original builder supplied fitting (although you are allowed to modify it) and the 2 class replacements by Holt and Harken (if you buy go for the Harken it beats the Holt hands down).

There are all sorts of wierd and wonderful rigs out there on Lasers now, just a case of looks round and see what other people have done and find what works.

I have just changed to a Blaze as I am too fat for the Laser now, the contol lines are so much better!

Just to set the record straight by rigs I mean running of ropes etc.. not actual rigs....although someone out there may have put a strange rig on a Laser 'just for fun'....
