By popular demand I've put more photo's on the above link, taken from different angles. From just the single appearance at Rutland they're seriously considering it as their new asymmetric trainer. Jeff Vander had a similar response when he visited Burghfield. Build quality is the key. I'd love to see some good light-middle weight crews adopting the boat for some serious class racing! |

from a purely selfish point of view ... I hope Jeff's order book doesn't get too long! Looking at some of their phantoms, Vandercraft's build quality is spot on. Performance sailcraft's boats do mostly last forever, tis true - but mostly due to sheer weight of material methinks. |

i have sailed with a freind in his l3000 and i thought that it was a nightmare downwind with the kite. so much lee helm!!! upwind it wasnt that nice either because it was light and the crew couldnt get far enough forward. my other major nigle with this boat is that i couldnt reach anything apart from helm and mainsheet. the crew had to come in off the wire to do it and i imagine that would be a pain in a blow. also my freind seemed to think it pitchpoled too easily. i had a look at the v3000 at the boat show and it looked much better for control lines bit i think the rudders still too short for all the lee helm. anyone think the lee helm was solved if theyve sailed a v3000?

Re-reading this thread, following trial sails and development ....... Lee helm problem massively reduced by a shorter pole and a shorted footed, longer luffed spinny hung from higher up the mast. Raking the mast back in a very cool way has also improved balance. Off the boom sheeting is a fine thing to have - but the builder is thinking about a boom mounted cleat system for single handing. For now, carefully placed stopper knots in the main sheet have to suffice during spinny launch & recovery! And no, you can't pitch-pole it This boat is now sorted, it's good. It really is a L3000 done proper. Mine is on order. And how nice to buy a boat built by a small UK builder to a design owned by the class association. |

Now there's a challenge if I've EVER heard one! That's what they said about the Dart 16, but I managed to put that A-over-T in Cardigan Bay. Congratulations to the class for turning a mediocre boat into one that seems very well sorted! And Nick, you deserve alot of credit for voting with your wallet! Edited by Strawberry |
