i was crewing on a spitfire cat and i notices there was one on the leech of the spinny.

All the older topper sails that i have sailed on or taught on have leach lines and progressively need tightening as the sails stretch but i havnt seen them on the new style sails.

Dont tighten unless you know what your doing ive seen people pull them or kids hang on to them and its a whole say gone to waste

Its a bit of thin rope coming out of the leech near the clew which you can pull to tension the luff.

Similarly there is a line coming out the foot of the sail on a topper which does the same but to the foot and not the leech!

What's a leech line? Anyone got a picture? I never heard of them...

yeah, well by "old style" I mean the hyde sails that were used before the contract being passed over to another manufacturer this year (with a slighly different design), not the real old school sails some of you wil have used!
