The report was written by a chap called Alex and copied from the moth mailing list by Chris.
I believe it was Alex Adams and Sam Pascoe in attendance |

Yeh i was there (dare i say it) windsurfing , the first day was awesome

desperately hangin on as they porpoised into nosedives

Doary from 2 of the youth foilers in the class from speed week.... Day 1 It was windy, too windy but this we didn't discover till we got out there with winds over 20knts It wasn't going to be an easy day. My first run down the 500m course was a night mare I got forced high by a couple of wind and kite surfers so not a good average. At one point a got hit by gust which inverted all the battens. My second run turned out to be the fastest of the day at 16.15 although I spent a lot of time dragging the hull as fought for control. The next two runs I didn't hike as hard as I thought the added control might work out quicker but these only resulted in high 15knots. Then disaster I hit an underwater mark while sailing upwind ready for my next run. Nothing an evening in the workshop couldn't sort though. Sam decided to return to shore after a string of spectacular wipe outs and number of swims where the boat seemed more stable with him in the water some distance behind. Interestingly however the recorded wind speed on my runs varied between just 13 and 14 knots. Day 2 A much more gentle breeze. Started of the morning posting a 14.7. The display on the finish boat was sorted showing the sail number and speed of the last boat to finish. After a number of runs I actually beat my speed from the day before despite less breeze. Getting bored of sailing along the reach I made use of my training partner to change a few settings on the boat after lunch and a new rudder angle some more tuning runs confirmed the boat was much better. So I returned to the course however the display at he end wasn't working and I haven't seen any results yet but it felt good. My next run didn't go so well It started great. I found a gust and came tearing into the start. Ahead was a wind surfer with a massive rig pumping like crazy. Thinking it get going and disappear I carried on into course at full speed. Within the first 50m I was over the top of the board the boat just felt faster then it had all day. Then there was a roar from behind as the rudder ventilated. The boat started to bear away as water shot up meters into the air. Suddenly I remembered the windsurfer just meters below. I franticly pushed the tiller across to no avail and came splashing down in a windward capsize breaking my kicker and narrowly missing the board. As I limped back past the rescue boat there was defiantly clapping. Sam should be back to enter on Tuesday and Wednesday Since he couldn't get an entry for the busy weekend. I'll hopefully do Wednesday. I Know I can go faster! Cheers Alex |
