thats another way of doing it, yet the reason thaat design was banned from the moth was becaue it creates multihull like stability which is against the class rules, in many of these development classes actually. Im not sure if the wings on a 49er are strong enough for that....

Isn't that the way the first foiling moth had it's foils? I seem to remember an article about it somewhere on the internet

in de old days there was a tornado named icarus that had similar (to look at in pictures !) foils to those on the the 18 , they pretty well perfected it ,and the  boat from whit I remember flew consistantly , only drawback (as far as I can recollect) was that it was no faster than a standard Tornado . so dissapeared into obscurity (relative )

James Grogono was the fella for those looking fra piccys , if available on web !

The 49er wings would not be strong enough, unless you reinforced their mountings to the hull, which would cause more work and by doing so, it may be hard to convert the boat back to a legal form. It would be nice to get the boat foiling but I'm not planning on sacrificing the legality of the boat to do it. The foils that will be put on the boat will have to be easily removed so we can still race the boat properly.

I believe that the 49er will hydro foil easily you will need 12+knots of wind. The 49er has a large wetted surface area at the transom. So you will need a strong wind to be able to do that. Thats why the moths are so good for foiling cuz of the small wetted surface area.
i think the foiling rs600 is still work in progress, they have had it foiling they are just refining it. its ment to be awesome!!

Sorry should have put some text on, this is Clive Everest's version of a foiler about 12months ago. Looks pretty sorted, but I think he had issues and has gone back to drawing board.

Copy us and try and put them on the 29er, would be really interesting if you put the X rig on her too, have you had a look at the Bethwaite website yet, lots of info about the 29er X rig....
