the 600 is back in one piece now, and im waiting for the sikaflex to set. today i was out on the short board and 6.1 sail and it was insane. properly planing, footloops and harness, blasting over waves and only catapaulted a few times. im going to get back in a proper boat tommorow though, ive had enough of this sail board thing for now.
600 732, will call it Sticks and Stones when i get round to it.
Also International 14, 1318

Just got in and am on a real high..

It was blowing today, and big seas, we got into a real duel with the 470,
we took them off the line, they got us back on a tight reach we didn't
kite, then we got them back, and then as we settled into the groove
started to outstrip them eventually finishing 30 odd secs ahead, a first for
us in that sort of wind and sea.

We'd tried something new with the pin things that define where the jib
sheets in, by setting them on their furthest out setting, there's a bigger
gap between the front sail and the back one, makes the boat handle so
much better up wind in a blow.

Then when we did get the kite up on the runs. wow, what a blast Jesus H
was it fast..

No question about this boat now, last week it was a drifter we were first
over the water, this week it was about as windy as it's ever likely to be,
they only just went for it with the rescue boats, and then only standing it
on its transom as they launched, and we still finish first over the water

Natural Order is restored.

P.S. No sign of Musto Skiffs today

Changed ends for race 3, what with it being a seperate series. Only helmed the B14 a couple of times before. It's the first boat I've steered with off-boom sheeting or twin tillers. Takes a lot of getting used to- I still don't like having to drop the tiller as I cross the boat. Becoming more aware of the sublties involved- will help for crewing. Really doesn't take much heeling to leeward to make bearing off impossible- needs to be flat or leaning to windward, otherwise the rudder just won't have any effect. I was doing OK, until on one drop he wasn't quick enough pulling the kite around the forestay after blowing the tackline- he'd assured me he could handle that himself. Leech got caught on the end of a batten on the main sail. So he gave it good hard tug.

So, he's taking the pink beast to the sailmaker for repair.

got a new toy today, an old National 12.

beautiful looking chesire cat design, sails nicely, needs a lot of work on it over the winter, but it will keep me out of mischief.

I will actually have to learn what all these things like mast rams and shroud levers do now.

the only thing about it is.... who in their right mind would name a boat "Gordon" and then plaster it all over the deck?!?!?!

Enterprise 22619 - to be renamed "Krossbow"
Nationa 12 2947 - "Gordon"

I didnt realise you had owned the boat previously Gruff

First thing I was going to do was rename it, but the name causes so much talk and discussion, I might have to keep it. would love to know the history though.

Can anyone tell me, are firefly's meant to have fixed position jib cleats or is
there a racier version with adjustable cleat positions??

Class rules specify that the position may not be adjusted whilst racing, so most peeps just figure out the spot and screw them into the thwart..
