Projection 762 Help please?

so you should be going like a stoat this year then???

we did last year by the end of burnham week, but then again we did have dave the human loos gage onboard!

reckon just a set of base tensions from across the fleet, for say 5-15 knots.  will measure ours when i get a chance.

good to see upstart ready to race again!  shiny new rig looks lovely. see you ve added a backstay whip aswell.  weve kept all our dynema covered just incase!

just wondering amongst all of the 762's on here what rig settings are being used.  im sure weve done this before but trawling through it all is tedious.

Filthy G is only a wee way south at Blyth , you would be v welcome sometime .

We are finally making progress and winning some races .New sails helped . We will always struggle with the Melges and corks , we can stay with them upwind in most conditions now , we seem to go really well in v light winds , which is a complete turnaround from last season , new genoa the main reason we think ,weight well fwd . Lots of mast rake . We sail with a melges helm as crew in our wed nite series , he reckons our boat is much harder to sail than a melges , goes well when we get it right though ! getting regular crew is difficult , however when we have the top team it all just works , even in strong winds , such lovely boats in a real breeze .

Chic I do think that with respect to kite area on Pink Gin the hoist makes good sence. In light winds kite area is important but it is by no means the only contributing factor. I believe that boat handling in ALL conditions is vital to get the best out of a 762 especially in the 5 - 15 knot wind barrier, where bigger boats around you will be going fast but the 762 will not be on the plane. I have sailed Pink gin with the kite set at the hounds and then set at the higher hoist, in the same race and the same conditions, and found that having a higher hoist gave more clean air draft to the top of the sail giving it truck loads more power, and the ability to get up and onto the plane sooner. As we all know getting up and onto the plane sooner in a 762 is vital in these conditions, when bigger boats around you will be going faster than you.!!!!

No disrespect to Duncan but he has not had the boat long and might not be getting full potential from the higher hoist yet, this comes with practice. I know every time I go out I look to see how i can learn to get the boat to go faster in varying conditions.

Our new 762 has had the higher hoist mod 800mm higher than the hounds and is already making a difference.

I would concur with what you say Chic.  In light winds, up to 8 knots, have a mximum of 4 crew, but above 12 knots definitely aim for 5 crew - this will enable you to hang onto the #1 until about 20 knots of true windspeeed.

I would be interested to hear what you think PG's higher spinnaker hoist.
