from todays sailing on a 4k i would say otherwise... although only YOU will know if your up for sticking yourself into the deep end and jumping straight into trapeze helming (considering the lack of trapeze experience you have?) must admit that a twin wire boat is much easier to communicate with the crew than a single wire boat |

RS800, would be thebest boat for you. Laser 4k and 500 are good boats but you will get bored preety quick. Laser 5000 is not a good suggstion, they are a big old buss in many respects, and the rs800 is a nimble kiten in comparison. 800 will be a good platform for you with loads of potential. 29er is a ood ship but only has limited potential for you.
800 all the way
Good Luck |

Thanks for all the advice guys, we really appreciate it. Unfortuanatly you might have to wait a few more months to hear how we get on. After the Laser nationals in august, I think we'll both sell our boats and get an 800! cheers, Ken

The 800 is a good boat and in time and if you avoid strong winds you'll get a great deal of fun from it - but. You say you want a challenge then surely bagging a kite is more challenging and so you should go for the 5000 and it'll save you a lot of money - on second thoughts you might be too light to right it. Save your money and buy a 4000. The challenge of sailing a 800 in a five might be too much - but with a 4000 you can go sailing in those sort of breezes. That's much more fun and cheaper too. |

Challenging? Cherub 2683 ' Pocket Rocket is up for sale.
It's an awesome boat IMO. I sailed it for the first time at Weston a while
back. Not having heard much from this boat I was surprised at how fast it was!
We got the kite up within a couple of minutes and were up at around 17-18
knots instantly. It was also quick upwind. |

If were toating for our classes. Then i think if you are jumping in at the deep end why not add want to go very fast to that list and but a 14? 6k would buy you a Beiker 4 or maybe an m12 and would be faster than anything mentioned so far and plus a massive grin factor. Things to consider though it may be too powerfull for 140 kgs they are prone to maintenence and can be exspensive when they break. But do have a HUGE grin factor. Plus you would'nt have to spend you're weekends with ross

just out of interest, how many boats are there at the worlds? The 800 is a nice boat to sail, it isn't insanely challenging unlike a new 14 which will nail you for hesitation in any manouvre in more than 15 knots of wind. Also they are less prone to breakages, not being built as light as 14s. the second boat i ever tra[ezed on was an 800, and with all the waterline length it is a very good boat to learn on. If your crew has more trapezing experience it might be worth bunging him at the back of the boat for the first few outings until you get the hang of dangling from a wire without a waggle stick to contend with as well. In a twin wire boat it really doesn't matter weight wise who crews and helms, only concern may be who can hoist the kite fast enough. and good on you for wanting to get out of the boredom and pain that is laser sailing (not the same thing as laser racing, which can be quite amusing, but would be better in nicer boats). |
