This years winners were aboout 24 stone, which is high considering the light winds.

I think the optimum weight for old small rig cherub is about 20 st, and maybe with the new bigger rigs, the optimum is a bit higher.

Yeah but even in the 'windy' races it was much faster ( to the downwind buoy ) not to twin, and even not to sit out too hard.
The best way is to get speed first and bear away, then sit in a bit, keeping speed up, and apparent fwd, and then just sail at max speed but DOWN to the mark.

Heel angle control is important too - too much heel in those pics!

The R-Class rule require a MINIMUM of 2 crew, so 3 or more would be fine !

I think there should be 3 lightweights - one for jib and kite, one for main and steering, and one just for adjusting T foil angle.

We are 21 stone with a big rig and were just pipped for 1st this year.
We've had a big rig longer than anyone apart from Kevin and have never
felt any need for more weight in all conditions, even over 20knts. So 18
stone is a great weight for a Cherub. Historicaly it's the sort of weight
Dave Roe used to sail at, yes that was with one string, but adding the
extra string is calculated to off set the extra sail area. So by rights all
things should be equal and light weights are still the way forward in the
UK Cherub.
