| When you look at blocks it should say what size rope it is made for. Because Cherubs are a development class you can use what you like. It's not like the topper where u have to use a certain size rope, or a certain size block or whatever. Just use whatever you want, normally the cheapest. Incidently, I just turned Strawberry into a twin tiller extension, and i reckon I made them both, bearing in mind they're carbon and 6ft long, for cheaper than a single topper one would cost. And it only took me half an hour! | |

Which is why you don't sail an asymmetric very deep downwind! for example if there is a choice between 2 gybes to make the bottom mark, or just sailing very deep for a short distance - the 2 gybes always wins! However the boat speed in a light dinghy doubles or more once you get planing / apparent wind sailing, and this easily makes up for the extra distance ( x 1.4 for 45 degree angles compared to straight). But in keelboats (as in the Hyde polars ), the boat speed doesn't change as much reach to run, so they tend to use full asy kites that project to windward to go as deep as possible without losing too much speed. With the bigger asy kites on more skiffy boats, it's not possible to reach other than 45 degrees (or less if it's blowing ) off dead downwind Frank Bethwaite tried an asymmetric kite on a Tasar, but he reckons it's slower than without using it! ( the extra speed not enough compensation for the extra distance ) | |

I've had no practice at all. I've only owned a Cherub 2months, and only learnt to laminate a month ago! It's SO easy. All you need is carbon, either UD (Uni-Directional) which is where all the strands go in one direction. Or weave which is where the stands are weaved together like a cloth. Then you just soak that in epoxy, which is a mixture of resin and hardener (this is known as wetting out). Then try and squeeze as much epoxy out as you can. Then wrap it round stuff!
