Thanks guys but whats cheap as chips to you probably isnt for us! we are all only 14/16 so how much would a second hand alloy mast be? and as we have like no boat building skills how hard is it to convert symmetric to asymmetric?

Andy is probably the best person to ask about the assy conversion. Maybe he could give you a detailed run down, if you ask him nicely. But basically its just a case of cutting a hole in the front for the pole to come out of, and a hole in the deck for the kite to come out of, then tie a block to the top of the mast.

And I'm currently hunting for an alloy mast for you!

Thanks you rock !!! Obviously we wouldnt buy the boat quite yet because its quite a lot of money for us lot to scrape together!

If we wernt planning to double wire it quite yet, the wooden mast would be ok for the time being would it?

I guess but to be honest i have never considered the 14 to be a lightweights boat, i thought it was nearly the same weight for crews as a 49er.

Also the 14 for some reason doesnt seem to me as to be such a friendly class

OOh, that's walking on thin ice there Frank!!  Bear in mind though it says: "quick sale as going abroad". How long is quick, that's what I wonder?!  Well why don't you email the guy and say we're interested - ask how long he's had it e.t.c!! He should know, since it is his!

Buga, I just wrote out a long essay answering all questions and dis sodin computer crashed!!!

Long of the short lads - I can come to you to help convert, its not too hard but then again ive been playing with carbon and re-building boats for ages. I have an old carbon cherub mast at home and a bendy tin merlin mast which can be cut down. Both can be sold cheap to get you on the water! I also have tin boom and broken carbon cherub boom - it broke in half on a very fast bear away!!! I can mend this tho, keep on meaning to!

As for the I14, if you get a penultamite you will then need the correct mast, as you need the class rules stiffness jobbys! Hence a cherub you can jus lob up anything! and which is why I can afford a latest spec cherub and im a student!!

If you want any pics of my scorpion conversion jus let me know.

To sail a 14 you need to eat LOADS of pies! Not exactly what I'd call a ickle persons boat!

And you will literally pick up how to work with carbon in 5 mins. It's really is a piece of p**s by anyones standards! Not scary at all.
