I was out with my brother (who hasn't been out for a while), and after a very quick building of confidence (in a force 5), we hit cruising speed and were away, and when we got the spini out we began to fly. Great fun and bring on the weekend . (Only one week till my GCSE's are over) |

Ended up on the roof of my folks house re-threading haliyards on my brothers 3000. Got the boat looking tidy again though. Gutted we couldn't go sailing because it looked dark across the water with no real chop, nice 49er weather and it was blowing too........

Windy on the Medway on Sunday. Capsised in the morning when we were way out in the lead but one of the marks was close to a mud bank and we hit it at speed with the kite up. I defy anybody to stay upright in that situation, but our lead was such that we still finished in a good position. In the afternoon we were just out of synch and capsised repeatedly - so poor result there. Carnage in the 800s with one ripping the bow fitting out of the boat and the other pulling cleats out of the deck. We had good upwind speed but I'm not sure we are getting the angles right downwind. We had one staggeringly fast reach, tight so we were fully powered for about a kilometre and then we had to drop and 2 sail at max power for about another kilometre.

I was out on the Medway again on Sunday. Medium to strongish winds. Long race (about 2hrs) in the morning with tide going upwind so got beaten by a Vortex Asymmetric and a RS800. The afternoon was better with just a tad more wind but unfortunately an early capsize but now the wind and tide were with one-and-other hence long beats which is great in the 4000. We practically kept up with the 800 and left the Vortexes for dead. We had tremendous upwind performance and went downwind at warp speed but were wobbly at gybes and roundings and the 400 had a bit of luck on a tight 3 sail reach (ie just a little less wind) so could lay the mark. I love the way the boat goes upwind in a breeze - it will just sail past a 400 either to windward or leeward. However the 400 had the last laugh and beat us on handicap, so we came 2nd.

Ask for an early birthday present.. I got new rig for my boat like that (OK it's a Topper, not quite the same expense, but you might have a bigger family than mine!)
