Yep. The old girl is back on her trailer, in a bit of a state but nothing a week in the shed with a boatbuilder, a new rig and pole won't fix. Then back at it again |

That story sounds sooo familiar. Back in '92 (I think) I was on board DBS when we and a few other Ultras had a go at the RTI.
Other than getting up far too early to get to the start, all went well until we were about half way round when the pole outhaul gave way shooting the pole back in and allowing the kite to go sideways. When we finally got the boat pulled upright the mast was broken......... big shame as a) it was a very long slow and cold tow back around the island and b) we where absolutely raging along (something like half an hour ahead of the monhull record of the time. If you look carefully in the top pic you'll see the sails of a racing cat further out to sea....... they started before us  Below is the before photo (sorry about the quality but it's a big framed pic so I have to take a picture of it!)  and then the aftermath    |
