RIP Zombie

i did round the island on the ultra 30 we were doing high 9s upwind to the needles then bore away and did about 14-15 on a two sail. went for a hoist and got the kite stuck on a wave this ripped it. rehoised the reacher and went off for over an hour at 18-24 knots constant speed. was amazing just surfing down massive waves. then the bad thing. the kite pole snapped the boat capsized next to st cathins went inverted. big waves and lots of tide ment that the rack broke off and the mast was broken. we had to be rescued and the boat is now drifting. shame as the brand new sails were amazing.

but was the best ever sail any of us have ever had.

Good to hear that everyone's OK< and the boat will be back. How well were you doing (position on the water compared to some of the big boys) when you went base over apex?

Glad to hear you guys were alright.  The calls on the VHF were talking about a "skiff" capsized and I could not work out what it might be, then later I heard the name and I was very worried!

Zombie took a while to find as she was well offshore...we stumbled across her just after she'd been found.  We were one of the very furthest boats out, everyone else was further in to St Katherine's, (seemed to work for us as were in the top 25% of finishers on corrected time in a Bavaria 32 cruiser) and the yacht which found Zombie was just ahead of us.  I took this picture and soon after we directed the lifeboat to her position...I hope that some kind of recovery was able to take place!
