leg raises, russian twists(lie on your back legs straight in the air arms outstreched on the floor lower your legs from one side to the other keeping your shoulders on the floor.very painfull and difficult if you havent done them before!!)Do lower back excercises aswell such as back extensions to keep balance otherwise youll just get big ab muscles and your back will be weak. Also try incline sit ups ,theres millions of different ones you could do.

use a hiking bench, do loads of sit ups and also a good excersize is to lay on your back, knees up as if your were doing a sit up, but lift yourself up with ur stomach but not all the way up and hold it, so your more or less doing a sit up with out sitting up properly...sorry im not very good at explaining!!! when it hurts your probably doing it right though!!!

The exact muscles used depends upon your posture. Unfortunately the most comfortable way to hike is not always the best. Bio-mechanical efficiency can be improved with practice. It is usually more important to hike with good form. Ideally like jogging you would find a level of intensity which you can continue to hike for the whole race. Be wary of just working on 'hiking muscles' as this may well lead to muscle imbalances if sailing is your primary sport.

* lower your legs from one side to the other *
doesnt that work obliques more than abs??

would love a hiking bench but if i made it i fink it would colapse (and not because im fat!)

is working stomach and back muscles/groups gonna lead to imbalances??
