I had a go on those RS/laser range or boats in Garda last season and they are the most lumpy, slow , old tech boats I have ever sailed. Why would any one want to sail that in the 5 ringed circus, Under powered, heavy, mmmm not international and no chance of pushing the 49er out.

 Dreaming!!!

The 5000, etc, will not push the 49er out BUT that doesn't make them less enjoyable for people to sail. Look at the RS 800, not as demanding as the 49er but still a really fast and great boat to sail and really popular because its not the same to sail as the 49er.

"Dinghy Solutions": I noticed your comments before, and thought some actual facts about the 505 might help you.

There is a genuine 23-30 stone variance in all up crew weight for the class - major championships have been won by crews at both ends of the spectrum (believe that the Nicholson Brothers are towards the lower end of that range).

As a benchmark, my 505 is now nearly 11 yrs old. Dave Smithwhite & Neil Fulcher won the 1st race at the Fremantle Worlds in 2002 in it, the conditions were a solid force 5. They won this punishing race by about 3 minutes.

The top US boats (The Waterrat design) are even older than that - Howie Hamlin sailed 8266 for about 10 yrs.

Further to that our 10 year old hull won the GB national champs in 2003; we just won the 2005 Inland nationals (8419 - a 12 year old hull finished second) and we are additionally aiming for a top 10/15 finish at the worlds this year. Other top crews have newer kit, which is no faster.

The FD is/has always been a great boat and your support for the class is really good to see. However before you try knock other classes, it is worth making sure you know what you are talking about.

No to both of you.

The Tornado is the FD of the Cat world and vice versa.

The F16 is the 49er of the Cat world and vice versa.

And I really don't care that one is faster than the other...that argument is pointless and boring
