thats what always worries me towing the boat to the slipway along the road instead of down the prom. also the rs300 is rather wider than the car (about a foot either side)

hopefully she makes a full recovery though

I would bet good money that they forgot to tie the mast on, there's no way it can come loose if tied onto both the mast support at the front and the transom, even if one of those come loose the mast should still stay on the boat and I can't imagine that both come loose simultaneously.

If they did forget to tie it on they should thank their lucky stars it wasn't any worse, or they could have potentially been looking at a manslaughter charge

I think you can still get in trouble for it coming off. Heard that if it were to come off on the motorway its 3 points and a fixed penalty if yours caught.

If anything falls of your vechile or trailier while you are towing OR from the roof rack it is considered an insurcure load & is 3 points, possibly dangerous driving or worse depending on the outcome.

Either way I would be VERY surprised if this driver was not done,

As Mr tmoore say`s - Hope she makes a full recovery.

It always pays to check your trailer as well... This mast support broke as the owner turned into his driveway at the end of a 200 mile journey. Two minutes earlier and he would have been doing 60 on a dual carriageway! As it was he only took out a few plants with his mast.

If you read the update you'll see she died.  That is awful.

My mast prop sheared off last year - absolutely no indication that it was going to do so - the trailer is fairly new and well maintained.  Fortunately it happened on a quiet country lane and no damage was done, not even to the mast.  But yesterday I collected the 14 from about 300 miles north so we made damned sure the whole thing was secure, especially with it being on an unknown trailer and lots of motorway miles to do.

I do feel for the poor girl's family and of course for her.  What a waste.
the same, but different...

that is terrible. i feel for her family, such a waste of life.

in a way i feel sorry for the guy towing though, doubt he will tow anywhere for a long time....... and must feel terrible

this has made me think, there is MOT's etc for cars yet nothing for a trailers? theoretically i could tow up to 750kg of unbraked trailer. with my little puegeot 306 diesel the brakes are obviously not going to be up to it. that said, it wont help with this kind of tradgedy.
