Teaching today - stage 2 -3.  A good day plus I may have finally sorted the lines on the phantom menace....

Safety duty at Oxford tomorrow.  I'm hoping it's windy so we have something to do.
the same, but different...

I was really chuffed on sunday, I went up to do a bit of boatwork, not expecting a sail as the met office forecast was for 1mph (!) and true enough when I got there it was dire. I was just about to go home after I'd finished tinkering when a nice 10-12 knot breeze filled in so had a cracking sail that I didn't even plan for!

I also found out that the previous day had seen a mini-tornado at the club, which blew over boats and caused havoc in the clubhouse but didn't affect boats sailing at the other end of the lake. The clubhouse windows were open so they had cups and things blown off tables and a metal parasol on an outside table was bent 90 degrees, and there was so much dust blown about one member thought there had been an explosion. It lasted about 2 minutes then it was gone.

This happened on our annual open day! No it's not normally like that here....

Lightish on the Medway but had a great race in the morning - however it got thrown out as the first boat failed to finish in the time limit.  We finished about 15 minutes before the next start - so lunch was brief, the 29ers who don't go very well in the light stuff would probably not had time to come ashore but there was a postponement.  The darn Osprey beat us on the water.

In the afternoon there was a tad more wind but a foul tide on the beat downriver.  We managed to keep the Osprey and the 400 behind us - not to mention the other 4000.  But we made a boob crossing the river against the foul tide, and we got stuck in the mud, and they slipped through.  We caught and passed them after the windward mark as we managed to "apparent wind" sail nicely downwind and got back in reasonable shape but the Osprey and the 400 caught us by handicap.

We need more wind to catch a long boat like an Osprey and the 400 is very good at short tacking or running deep.  Our day will come.

The 4000 got a rest this week.  Too cold, too much snow.
