The Hoo Freezer Fast Handicap really shot themselves in the foot by causing all their general recalls (a lot of the fleet was half-way to the windward mark at the start gun of the first attempt!). Aye, we noticed there was fantastic wind whilst reaching back and forwards in the start area for half an hour. Not enjoyable, especially after the drama with the upside down, then back-to front, spinnaker*. Which followed the drama with the pile/wing interaction as we launched.

I think, though, we were one of the few boats not to be over on either of the false starts- for the second, we would have been crossing the line about three seconds after the gun. And we were good for what turned out to be the slow handicap start (that no-one turned up to the line for).

*a lovely, new, first time out the bag one from North.

Well I don't think the particularly bias line helped. The results were way out. Two completely different races took place in effect.

No probs with line bias on the Med start - people were nicely spread down the line; after the sequence has started it's hard for the RO to change.

Yes, it was tough on the 'Fast' boys this time, but usually it's they who get the best of the wind/less of the foul tide, so we found it a refreshing change!

We got the Cherub on the water but the wind was in a difficult direction for launching from the jetty. After having been on the boat for 10 minuets trying to untangle the main sheet and being violently smacked around the head by the boom we gave up launching and took off the water.

The wind in the morning was strong but perfectly sailable but it just kept getting stronger and stronger. If we were launching off a beach or grass we could have just walked the boat into the water, hopped in and sailed off (uber fast  ). Ohh well, Weston awaits!

Yesterday was spent Staff Training, team racing with Centre Lasers and Wayfarers. I took out a Laser, started but there was bugger all wind. The principle started paddling, so everyone followed. Turned into a game of Pirates with the Lasers. Classic but no damage done (been changed anyway!)

Today was really windy, went down to the centre, a Laser sail was flogging like made, too much for the 200 really. Ended up on the rescue boat, assisting half the fleet!!! Finished by photograhing a windsurfer out blasting about!
