Future Olympic Classes?

To be honest with you, you don't need the 470 as a stepping stone between the 420 and 505. If the FD does come in place, what class do we have for lighter sailors (ie total crew-weight approaching 140kg)?

what do u rele think that u ned to chnge class every couple of years otherwise it gets boring, Sorry but u have some realy crazy ideas about sailing. That is half the point of sailing ONE class so that u get to know the boat well and can sail almost automiticaly that way you can focus on you tactics and fine tune your racing / sailing skills, also wiht the wind n tide etc being so unpredictable you always have a challenge that you cant beat.

Even if u were replying to my post bout the changes in youth classes its still a very strange reply.

But the problem with the RYA scheme is that they severly limit the boats you can be trained in.

One option would be to have a sort of pyramid scheme where there a number of approved class routes that you can go through to get to the olympic classes instead of being forced throught the approved routes, eg:

29/rs200  to rs800/L4000  to 49er

or

mirror/cadet  to  laser2/420  to  505/470  to FD

etc

or you could have one yoth boat per olinpik class and you go for that into the olinpiks eg 420-470 29er-49er ect

I've always liked the idea of having an RYA official Champion's of Champions, where all the top sailors come together, and the top boats recieve campaign funding as with what happens for your squads. Guys who do well in classes like the Fireball, Laser 4000, etc might actually get the structured support with the added encouragement of moving into the Olympic classes. Maybe it could be a wild card sort of thing, where if you prove you are a top sailor, you get the oppurtunity to move directly into say a 470 or 49er and get the oppurtunity to move forward in that way.
