Echo Jeffers' point. The SGP is more of a festival championship than anything else.

The focus is to give people who would usually not want to attend national or ranking events a chance to turn up and compete, knowing that they will have solid competition right down the fleet.

At Datchet in 2003 there was a pair Dart 18 sailors who bought an old Fireball from the Datchet sin bin on the Wednesday evening; rigged it with the help of the F/ball fleet on the Saturday morning; and competed in their first ever monohull races during the afternoon.

I believe that they beat about 6 boats...!

Just taken a peek at the entry form on www.fastsail.org and Laser 2 and 420 are invited classes this year. So either BYO and enjoy or volunteer for a crewing job.

For any who say they are not good enough, ability is definitely a second place consideration for the SGP, it is about the rock stars mixing with the mere mortals and about getting to know people who sail like minded boats (even though they are all staunchly supportive of their own class). It was excellant fun last year, I am hoping to make there myself this year even in a non-sailing capacity.....

Regards,

Paul

Ummmmm you'll have to ask Aunty Cath and Uncle Mike that one.  e-mail cath@fastsail.org.

Of course, you could always volonteer your services on the crewing front.  There are always people looking...

As Harry and 49er said, it's for everybody.  I'll be sailing my Osprey with my 13 year old son as crew. (Fortunately he's better at it than me).

There will be the real hotshots there and there will be people who just do it for fun.  Either way, everybody mixes, learns alot, and has a real fun weekend.

I'd give it a go if I was you, probably vast variations within fleet abilities and you'd be able to learn off of the faster sailors at the event.

Not involved with fastsail but I'm sure theyll welcome people of all standards, and anyway you probably are quite good- jst trying to be modest!
