Coming from another biased development sailor. The 14s seemed to attract a huge amount of attention and positive attention as i did a quick bit of inpromtue 14 promotion on the Harken Stand. Im not trying to poke sticks at bears in cages but most of the time the cherub stand was so empty everytime i walked past i could of sworn i saw tumble weed.

 

On the contrary, we were pretty busy most of the day. There were SO many people who approached the stand having sailed them many years ago and just love to see how well and how much they have developed. We had a lot of people who we're genuinely interested in the class and we had nothing but positive vibes and comments about the boat all day. It was quite funny to watch the "jaw to the floor" expression on people’s faces when we told them that the boat was 18 years old!

It was a good day. I thought that the 14s we're just over engineered but nice. Next year I'll take a chair.

4 pages of comments and we're back into the usual class sl*gging. I must admit to not being there, I was sailing, so I have no idea how many people went to what stand.... and to be honest I don't care.

The good:

Control of the tannoy had been given to someone else this year and the damn thing wasn't going off every 5 minutes :-)

The bad:

Lack of shuttle busses to get from Wood Green to Ally Pally first thing on Saturday morning, can't believe that TfL charge £2 on the W3 bus!

The ugly

Some horrendous tri-maran things

The disappointing:

No Fastsail stand this year

The Future:

The try a dinghy day (at Datchet??)

A fair few classes were not there because of the price that they are being charged for the stand. They have found it better to put the money into other ways of showcasing the class.

As for me, I didn;t go this year but the new Blaze does look very nice. Only a new deck moulding though for the geeks. Minimum weight the same, Hull shape the same, just another step forward for the class..if only I had the money and the time!

9 new boats sold to existing and new members without the boat even being seen! Not sure if they took any sales at the show though.

As for me I went sailing instead, didn't need any bits this year although I will got next year if I have the time.

If you came by tube and had a zone 1 - 4 travel card you don't have to pay on the bus just show it.

Contender: in wood, ALWAYS looks stunning. Even if there's no-one there to see it, I suspect........

My-Newt: off-the-wall idea, maybe they know what they're doing, but I wasn't convinced about the build/fitting quality. (I just happened to be stood there having a three quid pint....)

Wow factor: nothing very much. I expected the Moth/I14/Cherub to do that, but somehow they didn't. Maybe I'm too used to seeing them.

Trimarans: yes, there was a surprising number of them there, and not all (as has been 'normal' to date) aimed at disabled sailors.

Aye, the Weta trimaran especially is intended as a hiker- and that huge one by the Topper and Ovi stands had a deeply odd trapeze system, which I should have taken a photo of just to show the world how daft it was- trap line led from the apex of a shroud bridle arrangement. Think this is it:


If he was traping any lower, he'd fall out. And trying to come in anywhere other than the dead centre of that triangle would run a severe decapitation risk- imagine if you slammed off a wave and lost your footing on that bad boy...

Well the my-newt is essentially an extension of the 2.4m/Illusion idea I suppose, unless I read that price wrong they certainly seem cheap enough. A niche boat for sure, but I reckon the market is out there...

We had to get the W3 up on Sunday aswell, my Dad couldn't walk up as he has a bad knee and the shuttle bus which was meant to be running didn't seem to be..
