Went around yesterday, some lovely contenders (biased) but the wooden was was very impressive, i also think the merlin looked pretty sweet. Spent ages looking around the skiff population of the OVI stand and managed to not spend too much. Shame i couldn't have a go on some of the boats though, wanted a go on the moth and the musto. All in all, good day.

It possibly should have been the Solo sailing show this year as they seemed to be everywhere!
The new Laser Bug was fugly! (bugly?) compared to the offerings by RS (Tera) and Topper (Taz) The Alto was like What Lots of pwettyful moths and skiffs though Other than that I think I've been convinced to join the cherub fleet now

I spent the majority of the weekend working on the Cherub stand... as seen in the background of grf's photo's. Best boats.... Cherub... (but i'm very biased), Int canoe, N12 (i really really want one as a second boat for puddle sailing). The 14's looked alright but far too expensive for me, i liked the clean cockpit on the ovi boat. Didnt really get to see much of the show as i was too busy talking cherub. Theres a Blasting/try a cherub weekend next week at draycote, so if your interested send me a PM and i'll give you some more details. |

Third time I've been to the show, first time as an exhibitor.
observations: Sunday was much, much quieter than Saturday- which was good, given my hangover*. I think being on the kids' treasure hunt trail did help us quite a bit- and delaying the parents further by equipping the kids with badges and feeding them sweets gave us more time to figure out if they were local. Alto doesn't look as bad as the one I saw at Felixstowe last summer- though no-one will sell me a canting pole. Our Treasurer spent an amazingly long time talking to the woman from Astus who came round, given that launching a tri at King George would be rather tricky. He felt no need to explain
Endless Solos! Everywhere you turned there was another one. The I14s have a special sort perverse beauty in their ugliness. The one on the Harken stand, with quite possibly Harken's entire range, being a case in point- respect for having a matching spinnaker pole and hull! Far too complex for my liking though How do you have time to tweak all that on the water?
Ovi's new one looked quite pretty, but then it wasn't rigged.
Merlins- the General Lee is a lovely bit of work. But again, too many ropes for my small brain.
Sorry, WHAT?
Anyway, good fun, and despite us giving out sweets to small children all weekend none of us were arrested. Hurrah! Sleeping in tommrow, which will be nice. *(brought on by Old Speckled Hen from the keg (about 11:45am), Carlsberg, the free Budweiser thanks to Dinghy Sailing Magazine, the free Spitfire at the party in the Palm Court, Carling, Fosters, another Lager (I forget which) and Peroni. |

Coming from another biased development sailor. The 14s seemed to attract a huge amount of attention and positive attention as i did a quick bit of inpromtue 14 promotion on the Harken Stand. Im not trying to poke sticks at bears in cages but most of the time the cherub stand was so empty everytime i walked past i could of sworn i saw tumble weed. |

I think each classes displayed their respective boats really well but then again it's hard for a boat not too look nice when it's shiny and new and covered in dyneema and other such things
Loved the new 14's but how many ropes do you need!? The 600ff looks great with the new sail, but the standard 600 looked much nicer than mine with a white, not yellow, sail and nice new fittings and ropes. I almost ended up getting given an OK by the OK class association who were quite pushy. I think they really want more people in their class? The new ovington 14 was really nice but at £9000 for the hull it's quite pricey. I wasn't sure about the new selden fittings, they looked very cheap and crappy. The Musto stand was really friendly, same goes for the ovington stand and the contender association, also the 5oh and scorpion guys were really nice. |
