A very concise and accurate take on the situation. I really hope something good comes out of it ![]() ( my only thought is what ever format, a ignore/ blocking function is a must ) Thanks to Mark and Mags for all the time they have spent on this forum over the years .

Just to say that this Y&Y site is great place for news and reports, and I am sure that the site will continue to provide that. Many thanks to Mark for providing this great resource. But the forum has had its day. Maybe The Pin End can fill the void, time will tell.

mags and mark have gone over and above for this forum over the years - if you want try to create one Duncan be my guest……
the software deployment is the easy bit. I know, I’ve built them myself, but there’s rarely any thanks in it, so whatever Mark’s decision, I would like to say thank you to him for providing this welcome distraction from the mundanity of office life for the past 20+ years. If Facebook is its slayer then so be it… the one thing we all know as dinghy sailors is that those touting something as a technological advancement don’t always get it right. Despite the glitz and the glamour, the best fun we might have might be back in the water-pusher with your old mates This forum had a great innings, I’ve met some great people in real life as a result of this place, but it’s the front page articles that keep me coming back… dropping in on the forum once in a while is not the reason Y&Y is still in my bookmarks best of luck to Mark and Mags, whatever your decision. And once again, thank you. |

I have tried looking a few times, so bl00dy boring, the stupidity of some of the posts makes my eyes glaze over.
The new TV campaign about not posting what you wouldn't say seems very apt.

Very true , it does have more than it’s far share of of misogynists and people that think Hitler was a little too left wing.
But what’s the choice ? FB pages just cannot replace what a forum does and no one that’s reads Marks post can think he and mags have any interest in this place as there is no traffic and therefore no money in it .

Do they still have ‘sailor chick of the week’ over there, I assume that was just the tip of the iceberg?

The biggest problem with SA is the misogyny. Other issues are readily handled by avoiding the more toxic areas and being ready with the ignore button, but I could never recommend the place to female sailors.

I think Marks post explains a lot.
All the other forums I am on that still have a reasonable amount of traffic have had loads of updates and improvements, plus consistent moderation. Unfortunately this forum is the state it is because it’s just not important to its owners . It’s a shame but there is nothing any of us can do about that . As 423zero said it will be a shame to see it go .If it’s does go and become a dead parrot, the best I can suggest is more over to SA. I know it has a bad reputation but it is better now than it used to be . Plus to be honest I’ve had much confrontation on here than I ever had there . Also it would be nice to have more uk/Ireland/ Europe voices on it .

Will be a shame to see it go.
www.aditnow.co.uk a forum I used to belong to went the same way, formatting complaints, it was taken off to update and never came back, all the data disappeared.
