I've never had hay fever my entire life until now, all this being cooped up has screwed my immunity. As for racing I don't think anything proper has been orgainsed at Hythe yet, there have been a couple of good nights and I'm not sure what happened this weekend where they self organised on the water, but I don't think any times have been taken or anything written down and or spreadsheeted. I've been off the water with a bent boat, but I should be back this week and may even get a kite organised to sort out the PY disadvantage. |

Hay fever is a nuisance at the best of times, complete and utter pain at the moment, people give you dirty looks.

The decision re 2+ boats was always going to be common sense. I agree for some venues shoreside is a deal breaking problem, and that self management is the way forward. Other venues may be able to work around it - these could be in demand in 2021! I am a little worried that some classes/organisations seem to be trying to run a marathon before we've walked around the block. Conservative and considerate is still the message! There is now no reason whatsoever why we cant start down the path towards near normal club racing.

You have my sympathies. The only thing I could do to alleviate symptoms in my yoof was to go sailing. Fortunately our club was surrounded by dust not crops or grass. Sailing at the coast was even better. I have now mainly 'grown out of it'.

Sadly, I was actually at work so not posting yesterday, but hope many were sailing. Sunday has traditionally been dead on here. |

Well, what happened last week was confirmation that two separate boats, even if doing the same race were not a gathering. The gathering is on 'a boat'. Which makes total sense to anyone except those looking for a reason to stop racing. Where there is a limit, it is dependent upon what clubs can handle shore side. Which again, makes total sense. That is not a specific number, but dependent on the physical capacity and mitigation in place. Last week we also had some more information on team sports where social distancing cannot be achieved. This could signal the return of competition for teams from different households in the coming weeks. Cricket resumed last weekend. The RYA has to submit their plan the PHE for approval. In some ways sailing teams are more risky, in that you spend considerable time within 1m of another person. However, the 'population' of those that you get close to is very small, usually just the one person. So, from that perspective the risk of spreading it to many teammate and opponents is small. I think going forward we're going to have to all do a bit of risk assessment ourselves. What are our risks, what are the risks of the person we are sailing with. And what is the risk to the people we'll have contact with in the days after sailing. Obviously this will make those who need instruction directly from Boris very uneasy. Team sport guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-phased-return-of-sport-and-recreation/return-to-recreational-team-sport-framework RYA 'multiple boats racing aren't a gathering (based on DCMS clarification)'. https://www.rya.org.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/clubs/COVID%20guidance%20to%20racing.pdf

Usual non contributing rubbish from the same faces.
Nice one Davidyacht, I couldn't sail Saturday, hay-fever gave me a gravelly voice, sounded like covid. |

Agreed, we resumed more formal racing at Salcombe at the weekend; fifteen or so Solos and probably as many in the Handicap Fleet. One person in the Race Box and two Household double manned “patrol” boats. Lovely afternoon and from a racing perspective was a return to normal. The estuary and particularly the shared slipway was bonkers with recreational craft launching and recovering as were an unusual number of anglers popping up at unexpected places ... would appear that lots of people were taking advantage of the relaxed restrictions ... and good for them.
