Tessa model s 3 hours at 220 volts
1,75 hrs with super charge, hopefully they have a reading room. Swiss company claim to have developed a charger that charges in minutes. |

If you want to charge in minutes it's not just about the charger, you need fundamental changes to battery design.
I find it hard to see electric cars as being practical for very long journeys - London to Edinburgh+ in the foreseeable future (unless you stop overnight or for a long lunch and snooze on the way!)

The desire for super fast charge times is why a model of Samsung phone kept catching fire last year. We just aren't there yet unfortunately.

Those of you with EV, you do know that a home charge point installation gets a government subsidy don't you? Few criteria to fulfill, installers did the form filling. All quite painless.
Well, apart from building a porch a few months later where it was installed and having to move it. But I can hardly blame anyone else for that.

Always wondered if permanent magnets laid into road surface on fast roads, motorways etc, couldn't possibly generate a current to top batteries up ?

I doubt the power transfer could be sufficient. I suppose it might be worth considering using existing technology and setting power rails into the road like a sort of inverted trolly bus system?

Sam,
wouldn't necessarily have to generate loads of current, a coil on bottom of car passing over permanent magnets, cost would be minimal. scalextric type tracks would work, but, cost would be exhorbitant.

last year ?
or do you mean the Note 7 in 2016 ... which was nothing to do with chargers or charging rates , and everything to do with poor battery construction and QC by the supplier https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38714461 |
