A new class of dinghy?

There is a general trend in western societies towards dematerialisation.

For example the size and number of IT devices that are now redundant and their functions well handled by the mobile phone.

Many young people no longer drive. In a few years car ownership will start to reduce as electric and self driving technologies come in. Renting/leasing will/is increasing. 

The level of ownership of large heavy complex personal equipment is going to reduce. 

We are starting to see a move to additive manufacture and personalisation in some areas.

The dinghy boom was reliant on infrastructure for large complex bits of personal sporting equipment. This is now less available and so old ideas of building boats and even having boats as we know it are slowly passing.

The growth of very sophisticated inflatable Sups shows one way forward, light, personal, volume appropriate to modern living, accessible in cost and skill.

All ideas/products have an adoption curve, dinghy sailing has reached the top and is on the downward slope, probably with a few plateaus but over the next 50 yrs I would expect it to show  a general decline. Other sports will take over. At the moment it is Sup.

The solution is to enjoy the ride, be flexible, develop new skills.

It is so naff, trendy, industry driven latest gizmo.
