And that’s the difference between a craftsman and a businessman... nowt wrong with it, capitalism thrives with both; but it’s chalk and cheese.

More sustainable business making and selling 20 boats to bankers than making and selling the latest fad that requires significant tooling investment and has a short lifecycle?  Not to mention more enjoyable.

Maybe so, as long as the bankers don’t represent a too narrow market... say one ageing into oblivion

Should be ok if their children follow in their footsteps ... both sailing and banking

Wrong.
1000 “£400 boats” will be transactional - shell them out get them out the door go home at a reasonable hour.
£20k boats depending on a few things can be easily into the semi custom situation where you have the prospective owner on the blower an hour a day, wanting changes, rework, inspections, meetings etc. That can be an enjoyable aspect can be horrendous and very disruptive to actually getting the job done and consequently getting the invoices out.
For these boats with a fair bit of customisation, a substantial amount of cost is in dealing with the client.
Certainly for most production boats you will have to pay more to have stuff taken off / omitted as it’s disruptive to procurement / production etc.
To each their own!

I have a theory. To be proper art, it has to be done speculatively / independently, by no means to a commission.
Anyone fancy building boats speculatively 😀😀😀

BOOOOO!!!!!

Seriously though, is it too much of a compromise to be able to produce a reasonably priced adult sized rotomold that performs to near Laser levels (PY1100ish)?
