Thanks for that contribution. Not so much worried about varnished decks, (varnish is for masts), more the dagger board as I flange around trying to right the beast. I have a mate who can mill stainless, we have hammers. We could probably make a spreader bar/hook/socket in carbon. We can certainly turn a ball on the end of a stick. The missing link is the fabric bit of the harness which can be un-laced/un-strung/un-threaded from its original spreader bar and fits my ill-proportioned frame. When things go 'off-message', I find shoulder straps of harnesses not staying on my shoulders, because the fabric part of the harness is tailored for someone whose bum is a lot nearer their neck. The keyball thing is a side issue, ISTM, a lot easier to to bolt a 4 quid plastic moulding to a flat plate than weld on a hook.

It should be cheap enough (relatively speaking) to get a short run manufactured, a CNC plot to cut out the flat plate (and only the hook/hole dimensions are even remotely critical) and then press the three bends (hook 'point' and the two 'comfort bends' to make it figure hugging) into the flat plat.I do see a backing piece of plastic which also looks as if it holds the ring in place (I have been looking for a 'dogs knob' to add to my harness for a while) until you remove it but that is easy enough to add.

As iGRF has shown. The one in the photo likely belongs to a certain V3000 and B14 sailor of our mutual acquaintance. My flat plate jobbie was £25 .. a bargain, there's nothing to it, just a bent, laser cut chunk of stainless. I wore it at the Osprey nationals this year and a few people fancied getting one to protect their lovely varnished wooden decks. Sadly I failed to find a source of them. Keyball schmeeball, I wouldn't bother. |

Got to be easier than trying to sit in the right place on a Blaze and disappearing down the crack. So that's what really happened to you .... now we know.

Also when new design trapeze harness was a big thing rule makers were looking at mandating detachable hooks, which neither this design nor the keyball would have complied with. When it was realised that the rule was dumb I think the whole thing got shelved as "too difficult". |

Sounds reasonable, and I would think hooking in hands free with that or the key ball is impossible (not that I'll ever reach such dizzy hights of trapezing competence).

Because the entrapment issue was overstated, and a traditional system easier and faster to use?

Seems a reasonable idea; wonder why it didn't catch on?
