Cost option on injection moulding would be fortunes.
Toppers are not getting the sales to justify running colour choices.
The boat has become a victim of it's innovative production method.

I wonder how many other plastic mouldings are still on the market unchanged after 40 years?

well someone has to mention washing up bowls, if only to answer the question above, rather than any derogatory connotation.  ;-)

Washing up bowls are probably moulded lighter now than 40 years ago!

I think you are pretty much on the mark there ...  If an early Topper has been stored properly  there  is little or nothing to degrade in the hull

wooden  or fibre (and foam) + resin composite  boats will degrade over time  regardess of how well care for  ( possible exception beign if  they are  dry sailed and  stored  at  'cellar' temperatures  (i.e. indoors ,  reduced temperature range, controlled humidity )

I don't know what the long term life of the Topper plastics is, but when I worked with PVC decades ago stopping the material just disintegrating on its own without external assistance was a significant problem, requiring all sorts of additives. What's more many of the most effective ones are now illegal. A lot of plastics do their best to reduce themselves back to crude oil given enough time. Go ask a museum curator about conservation of plastics! https://www.getty.edu/conservation/publications_resources/newsletters/pdf/v29n1.pdf

looking  quickly  it seems most of the work on PP degradation is one thin films  not the chunky  injection moulded  strautures  like Toppers

Most of the development money appears to be being spent on time delayed degradation.
