Well they didn't do it properly then. No good letting sym sailors try to design assyms, would be like using a windsurfer to design SUPS.. doh. |

92 Entries for the worlds - Looks like a pretty great turn out there!

I'm imagining it, and it's now too fast to sail at half the venues fireballs are popular at. Plus, swinging sprits, really? If anything is a relic of the past, it's swinging poles. I don't think the low turnout is anything to do with boat, as it's far to sudden a drop from the previous years. It must be circumstantial, which is why I asked because I couldn't see any obvious reason why this year they would get such a low entry. Most probbaly a mixture of the reasons already mentioned. Plus, I saw their worlds include a pre-world french nationals and lay day, so the best part of two weeks off work once you factor travel. Edited by mozzy - 25 Jul 18 at 8:19am |

They should have made the fireball assymm years ago, with that nose it could also have a fabulous swinging pole, imagine what one would be like fully down to weight, sandwich construction, carbon rig and mast head assym kite on a long swinging pole, it would absolutely rock.

They've had a renaissance at HISC the past 3 years, with their own class start. usually see about 5 out each weekend, possibly 10 on a good weekend.
I thought about getting in one before the 800. But with limited time and that both my crew and I have history in asymmetric it made sense to stick to what we knew with the 800.

They can still get 10+ boats out on a Sunday morning at Draycote when the weather is good- which isn't a bad effort given more people are focused on single handers than ever before. It's a shame if the class does dwindle further, they are great fun to sail but never really seem to have bounced back from the asymmetric stabbing they took in the 90's.

It is also the 505 worlds at the moment, so that may have pulled a few people away - at least Gillard
