RS200 death trap

How hard should a boat be to sail? If everyone in the fleet capsizes in a day of racing is that too much? Or is it okay if everyone is having fun? How much should a boat punish bad handling technique?
We started the day with seven boats, ended with just three. But then it was well over 20 knots and out in the bay. Most people seemed to have fun and only one case of gear failure lead to one boat being towed in.
