The Harken cleats are good but the swivel does wear out eventually especially if it gets trodden on or has repeated high loads such as on a big boat kicker etc.

The Selden one has a ball raced swivel which seems much more stable under load. The only thing I would say is that the plastic jawed cleats are pretty bad, it's worth buying an alloy jaw cleat from them too and fitting that, you can always then sell the plastic cam cleat or use it somewhere less critical. What doesn't work, I have tried, is to buy their swivel and replace the cleat with a harken one. It doesn't fit. You can modify the swivel slightly to make it fit but there is nothing really wrong with their alloy cleats so that would be my suggestion. The Harken cleat when new is good, but does wear out pretty quickly.

It's for the jib. Can you get a spin-lock on a swivel? I have one on the 200 kite halyard and it cleats and un-cleats very predictably.

Yes, well I say that we had one on the Alto for the kite, but it might have been one of my fudges fitting a spin lock to a swivel, I'm sure they must have clocked it by now, have a google.

I've got two of the Harken ones, one is 3 the other 2 seasons old (though last year was a thin season from my point of view!). No discernible play, and always been happy with it - they
are on a stupidly small mizzen and a dangly pole downhaul, so loads would be lighter than a jib sheet!

The Standard one used by Contenders is the Ronstan bullseye which very similar to the Harken. It shouldn't do what you describe so I suspect the swivel has become loose as its aged. you may just need to replace it.

The spinlock does the job very well too and you don't need to uncleat it to pull it further on.

Currently got Harken one. But it has considerable play in the swivel. I'm not sure if it's the design, or because it's old but the result is it's very hard to uncleat from the wire, the cleat just moves with the rope when you try to whip the rope up and out of the cleat. .

Is there a better design that will have less play?
