Thanks for the advice!
I was planning to use Blakes Duragloss which is a single pack varnish. I know this won't give the best finish or last as long as a two pack equivalent, however, the boat is a recent purchase and needs this sorting before I can get out on the water. I'll see how it lasts this season and might change to a more permanent solution at the end of winter 2019.

Any issues with this approach?

I have used Perfection Plus two part on my RS800 mast. As advised by RS.

Have done it twice. Lasts at least five years each time.

No need to remove fittings!

I wouldn't touch the fittings. You can do terminal things to carbon masts with rivets if you don't have the right equipment.

Hello there,

I am just about to re-varnish my RS800 mast. Is it sensible to drill out and remove all the mast fittings before re-varnishing or should I mask off as best I can?

I am a little concerned about reinstating the shroud connection plates and spreader fixings as the load on the spar in these locations is high.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Simon
